The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are investigating after a blue Ram 4X4 pickup truck crashed into the front of the Global Okanagan building on Leon Avenue, with a female driver placed in the back seat of a police car.
The accident happened around 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
A witness at the scene said the truck accelerated around the corner of Pandosi Street, struck a fire hydrant, broke a road sign post and finally crashed into the front of the building.
Photos from the scene showed scratches left by wheel rims extending along the sidewalk and road into the building.
Witnesses said an RCMP officer took a bottle of alcohol from the driver after the crash.
At least one other car was hit by the truck.
Although police did not release much information, they admitted that they had been chasing the car for several minutes.
The vehicle was seen driving erratically on Lawrence Avenue in front of the Castanet Building before the accident.
Stay tuned for more information.
