This Thursday, Eric Spitz, High Commissioner of the Republic of French Polynesia, inaugurated the Rava’ai Nui VIII vessel, which strengthens the civil society tuna fishing fleet, in the presence of the President of French Polynesia, Moetai Brotherson SC Tahiti (TNP).

As part of its expansion project, SC Tahiti Nui Pêche received state tax exemptions (corporate income tax relief on overseas investments) for the acquisition of two new tuna vessels, including the Rava’ai Nui VIII, which enabled the construction of 14 new tuna vessels.

The State supports fisheries, the second largest export sector in French Polynesia, and shipowners, which are crucial to economic growth and job creation in the region. In addition, the State supports the State in implementing its sustainable development strategy for deep-sea fishing to support better food sovereignty, in particular through tax exemptions and contractual arrangements.

Thus, in terms of state tax exemptions, six investment plans were approved between 2015 and 2024 with a total tax aid of 1.2 billion CFA francs, allowing the purchase of 10 vessels and the construction of a fish trading workshop.

The State and the State finally work together to develop a French Polynesian Blue Economy Roadmap, which should be validated during the upcoming Commission for the Strategic Direction of Ports and the Sea (COSMER), in favor of developing and protecting the French Polynesian Blue Economy model. French Polynesia intends to bring the ocean to the United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice in June 2025.
