According to Tabnak, the extension reads: Ali Sharifzadeh Ardakani, lawyer and attorney for Iranian citizen and New Zealander Serin Badiei, known as “Prince Serin,” announced the verdict in his client’s case.
Announcing the news, the lawyer said: “Insulting sacred objects”, “anti-establishment propaganda activities” and “inciting corruption and prostitution” were the basis for the verdict in my client’s case.
Although my client had lived in the United States, he was a citizen of New Zealand and the embassy of that country had been informed of the case.
Serin brought a range of property, including some jewellery and currency (US dollars) to Iran, which has been seized.
My client has been hospitalized in Ruzbeh Hospital in Tehran for two weeks and suffers from bipolar disorder. We asked them to send him to the three-member forensic medical committee again.
In our opinion, Serin is sick besides being a criminal. A person who came to Iran from the United States via Mashhad said that his goal was to spread Iran’s message of peace, purity and friendship to the world. According to my client, he intended to announce; Iran is not a terrorist country.
He is currently in prison and facing financial problems where his income is not enough to make ends meet, a problem we have announced to our clients and several acquaintances at the New Zealand Embassy.
We will follow up on this case after the decision of the Karaj Court of Appeal. Since the client suffers from bipolar disorder, which is considered a form of schizophrenia, and has sudden episodes of insanity from time to time, we remind you that this disorder, in other words, is suffered by a madman who is not permanently insane.
In any case, according to the charges, my client’s case was sentenced: 66 months in prison for encouraging corruption and prostitution, 36 months in prison for insulting sacred objects, 7 months and 16 days in prison for propaganda against the regime, and 7 months and 16 days in prison for defamation. His file contains records of years of bans on leaving the country and activities in the virtual space.
We hope that, taking into account the above-mentioned case, the decision of the Karaj Court of Appeal will be carefully scrutinized by the judges in order to prove that our client is mentally unstable.
