
The government has given huge sums of money to local groups to organize tours to Hengqin in the second half of 2024. Data from the Public Assets Supervision and Administration Bureau shows that the plan, backed by the Macau Foundation, has received Funding of MOP7.1 million In the second quarter of this year.
The subsidy, called the “Love Macau Hengqin Financial Support Program,” will be used to finance one-day tours to help Macau residents get familiar with neighboring Hengqin and learn more about the Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone. Participants will receive a 100-Macao-peta-dollar Hengqin e-voucher.
The Macau Foundation, a government agency set up to promote Macau culture, has awarded MOP7.1 million in grants to seven groups to help them organise these tourism activities. The General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau received more than half of the grant (MOP3.85 million), while the Macau Federation of Trade Unions came in second (MOP2.73 million).

Among them, smaller donations range from MOP 143,000 to MOP 33,000, and the recipients include the Macau Agriculture Federation, the Macau Volunteer Association, the Macau Opera and Music Art Association, the Macau Gaming Industry Employees’ Home and the Mother’s Foundation.
These groups can apply for the subsidy between May 20 and 31.
Local residents interested in participating can only apply for one tour, and the cost varies by association (but is considered very affordable). The tours take place from June 15th and will run until December 31st, 2024.
