The government hopes that Macau’s independent filmmakers will produce more films with local themes.
To support this work, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC in Portuguese) Announce It will award MOP1.55 million in grants to 16 film projects as part of the “Local Image Power” initiative.
The jury will decide which projects will receive funding, with each film receiving up to MOP280,000. Projects must fall into one of three categories: documentary, short film and animation. The categories will be further divided into “Advanced”, “Open Level” and “Newcomer” levels.

The Local Film Power program has been in place since 2007 and has supported about 160 film projects to date. According to IC, the program “provides support for experienced creators to present their ideas in a more professional form” and provides “conditions and production space for amateur producers who are trying to create works.”
The program is just one way for local filmmakers in Macau to seek support.
