‘The Umbrella Academy’ cast shares their love for Toronto

As The Umbrella Academy wraps up its fourth and final season, the cast shares their love for Toronto.

Filmed across the GTA, the series follows siblings with super powers who unexpectedly reunite after their father dies.

Ahead of the release of season 4 on Netflix, CP24 had the opportunity to speak with some of the cast, including Elliot Page (Victor), Tom Hopper (Luther), David Castaneda (Diego), Emmy Raver-Lampman (Alison), Robert Sheehan (Klaus), and Justin H. Min (Ben).

“I love Toronto, so I’m really happy that we get to shoot the show there, and I’m happy whenever I get to work there,” said Page, who said he often rides the TTC subway and takes long walks around the city while filming here.

His favourite places, he said, include Highland Park, the beaches and the Toronto Islands.

“I mean, I walk a lot. So for me, Toronto is a great place to walk,” Page said.

Ravel-Lampman also praised Toronto as “a great sports city,” especially for sports fans like herself.

“I mean, we have the Raptors and the Maple Leafs here, so there’s always tons of sporting events here no matter what season it is,” she said.

They say that because filming lasted for several months, the cast has become quite familiar with Toronto.

“The food in Toronto is incredible. There are music festivals in the summer, the lake is so clear, it’s just so much,” Ravel-Lampman said. “I think we were there for the better part of half the year, I’d probably say nine months of the year in the years we were shooting. That’s a long time, so you really get to know a city.”

She called the show’s end “heartbreaking.”

“I’m not good with goodbyes, which is why I think I like Irish goodbyes. And this really wasn’t an Irish goodbye, so we really had to live with it,” Lavelle-Lampman said. “We had to live with the heartbreak and the sadness and the end of this chapter and this journey and say goodbye to these characters.”

Page said the show is over and this is just the beginning.

“Now that we’re all together again and we’re talking about it and looking back on it, I really feel like, yeah, oh my god, this is the final season. We’re done,” he said.

Hopper said the series is unique in terms of how the actors mesh off-screen.

“I feel like it’s more of a family environment,” he said. “Yeah, we play brother and sister, but we also create this environment to counteract that. I guess I just realized it little by little. I was like, ‘I don’t see these people for most of the year,’ and I see them every day, you know, I see them all the time.”

The Umbrella Academy Season 4 premieres on Netflix on August 8.
