The first pedestrian walkway for the disabled was completed

Sohar: The Northern Governorate of Al Batinah has pioneered the opening of Oman’s first health trail designed for people with disabilities and special needs to emphasize their rights in life. Located in Al Hambar in Sohar Governorate, the trail is about one kilometer long and has multiple functions to meet the needs of people with special needs.

Waleed al Nabhani, director of the projects department at Al Batinah North Municipality, said: “One of the most striking aspects of this new trail is that it is equipped with a Braille map as a guide. The Braille map helps visually impaired visitors navigate and access the various services along the trail. We have also built a set of ramps to ensure easy access for those with reduced mobility, which is a perfect example of inclusiveness.”

This significant achievement makes Al Batinah the first governorate in Oman to prioritize the rights and needs of persons with disabilities, embodying the concept of universal accessibility. This initiative is expected to significantly improve the quality of life for many people and serve as a model for the rest of the country.

Ahmed Magbali from Sohar commented: “This is an innovative idea that provides disabled people and those with special needs with an opportunity to live on an equal footing with us. We no longer have to struggle with finding good places for our children who need such places.”
