KLOF, Germany: A hotel in Germany’s picturesque Mosel wine valley collapsed overnight, killing two people and rescuers were scrambling to extract the remaining three trapped guests from the rubble, local police said on Wednesday (Aug 7).

Joerg Teusch, head of the rescue operation, told reporters that the body of a woman had been recovered, but emergency workers had not yet found the body of the second victim, a man.

Tesch said that because the upper floor of the two-story building collapsed on Tuesday night, the building was very unstable and the rescue operation was very complicated. Four people have been rescued so far, but fortunately no one was seriously injured.

Among the rescued people were a two-year-old child, who was not injured, and the child’s parents, with whom rescuers contacted overnight.
