World No. 1 Iga Swiatek became the first player to qualify for the season-ending WTA Finals in Riyadh from Nov. 2-9, women’s tennis’s governing body said on Wednesday.
This season’s final will bring together the top eight singles players and doubles teams, with a record prize money of $15.25 million, with prize money set to increase in 2025 and 2026 after Saudi Arabia signed a three-year deal to host the tournament in April.
23-year-old Polish player Swiatek will seek to defend her singles title.
“It feels great to qualify for the WTA Finals for the fourth consecutive year,” said Swiatek, who has won five trophies this season, including the French Open, and bronze at the Paris Olympics.
“I hope that the performances of the eight best players of the season will bring a lot of joy to fans around the world.”
