Angel – Billy Ray Cyrus and Firerose are currently divorced.
Three months after Cyrus filed for divorce, on Monday, August 5, a judge in Williamson County, Tennessee, finally ruled that their seven-month marriage be dissolved.
Cyrus, 62, filed for divorce from his 36-year-old wife, whose legal name is Johanna Rose Hodges, citing irreconcilable differences and “inappropriate marital behavior.”
Cyrus’ attorneys, Ross Palermo and Jason Talley of Cheatham Palermo & Garrett, said in a statement to The Associated Press that he and Hodges reached a settlement on Friday, adding that Cyrus is “happy to put this nightmare behind him.”
“I feel so relieved…I thank God today and breathe a sigh of relief,” Cyrus said in a statement. “It’s unfortunate…that it had to turn out this way.”
“It’s a relationship thing. Love is blind…that’s for sure. BRC,” his statement concluded.
Cyrus’ attorneys claimed in a statement that Hodges legally changed her last name to Cyrus prior to mediation, and they said Cyrus believed this “validated his claim that his ex-wife’s sole motive for marrying him was to obtain his last name.”
Hodges’ attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Neither party will pay spousal support, and much of the asset division is based on ownership prior to the couple’s marriage, court documents show.
Cyrus also sought an annulment of his marriage due to Hodges’ fraud when he first filed the petition in May, saying in his application that he would not have married Hodges if he had “known” that he was involved in fraud. The petition did not provide further details about the alleged misconduct or fraud, but said the parties should be able to keep the property they each own.
The two musicians lived in Tennessee and released several songs together after their marriage in October 2023. According to court documents, Cyrus will transfer to Hodges the ownership, mastering and copyright interests, and royalties of the music and intellectual property they created together before and after their marriage.
Cyrus was married twice, one of which was Tish Cyrus, He and his wife, with whom he has five children, including musician and actress Miley Cyrus, were together for nearly three decades before divorcing in 2022. They had previously called off divorce proceedings in 2010 and 2013.
The 2022 divorce sparked a much-publicized rift in the Cyrus family. When Miley won her first Grammy in February, she said, “I don’t think I forgot about anybody,” after a lengthy thank-you and cheers-off for her family, which included her mother, who was in attendance at the ceremony, but not her father and one-time “Hannah Montana” co-star.
