Several US soldiers were injured in a rocket attack on the Ain al-Assad base in Iraq. The Pentagon confirmed that multiple soldiers were injured. Rockets hit al-Assad on Monday night, and a US Department of Defense official told the media that “preliminary evidence indicates that several US military personnel were injured.”

Pentagon officials said “base personnel are assessing damage following the attack” and more information will be provided later.

Reuters, which first reported the attack, said “two rockets” landed at the base, with one landing in a neighboring village without causing any damage.

The rocket attack on the Ain al-Assad base comes amid tensions in the Middle East and concerns about the spread of the conflict. The rocket attack also came a few days after the United States attacked the positions of militias supported by the Islamic Republic of Iran in Iraq. Some Iraqi sources said four militants were killed in the US attack last week.

Although rocket fire at the Ain al-Assad base was frequent in the early days of the Gaza war, it has largely stopped in recent months.

Following the killing of Fuad Shekhar, one of the senior commanders of Hezbollah in southern Beirut, and the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of the political office of the extremist organization Hamas, in Tehran, the secretary of Hezbollah, the Islamic Republic authorities, threatened that there would definitely be retaliation against Israel.

Hamas is designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union. Israel has claimed responsibility for the killing of Fouad Shoukhar but has not officially confirmed or denied involvement in the killing of Ismail Haniyeh.
