KUWAIT CITY, Aug. 6: A coordinated effort was made to control prohibited items and address bad practices in prisons during the inspection campaign conducted by the General Directorate of Correctional Institutions.
At dawn yesterday, prison guards from the General Administration of Prisons, with the cooperation of the General Administration of Special Forces, conducted a surprise search of Prisons No. 5 and 6, and found mobile phones, earphones, charging cables, drugs hidden in various secret passages, as well as knives, machetes, daggers, sticks and other sharp weapons in the prisoners’ luggage.
A security source confirmed to Al-Anba that through close monitoring of the prisoner wards, it was discovered that some prisoners in wards 5 and 6 were involved in illegal activities. Therefore, prison security personnel, in cooperation with the General Directorate of Special Forces, organized a prison security force to conduct a raid.
After the prisoners were evacuated, the police conducted a thorough search and found a large number of narcotics and pills hidden in tissue boxes and mattresses. In addition, the police also found multiple mobile phones, headphones and mobile phone charging cables, as well as sharp weapons such as knives, machetes, daggers and sticks.
The contraband was seized and police have launched an investigation to determine how the items got into the prison and have reviewed CCTV footage.
