Chief prosecutor Péter Polt sent the case of Attila Vári to the National Bureau of Investigation under the title of the report after media reports that the money was dispersed in an opaque and almost unrestricted manner in the operation of the professional association led by the two-time Olympic champion water polo athlete, wrote economy.
24.hu recently reported that according to a due diligence report commissioned by the president of the Hungarian Water Polo Association (MVLSZ), Norbert Madaras, the association spent money in an opaque manner during the presidency of Attila Vári from 2018 to 2022. The two-time Olympic champion will lead the professional association until October 2022.
More than half a year after Attila Vary’s resignation, Norbert Madaras reported that deficiencies in the accounting records made their work difficult and “raised questions about the convenience of the agreements and payments received,” which is why they decided to prepare a due diligence report.
In a letter to Chief Prosecutor Péter Polt, Danish MP Ágnes Vadai asked whether the Attorney General’s Office would open an investigation into the Hungarian Water Polo Federation based on the due diligence report from the Wari era.
At the time, Nemzeti Sport wrote that the association closed last year under the leadership of Attila Vári with a loss of 487 million forints.

In his response, Peter Polt said he assessed the complaint on written issues for its content and forwarded it to the Emergency Police National Investigation Office.
Between 2020 and 2022, the Water Polo Association purchased sports equipment worth approximately HUF 378 million from Breitling Sport Kft. 24.hu According to the introduction: “Taking into account the benchmark prices determined by the association, the cost of these purchases is about 160 to 200 million forints, so the net additional costs involved in the contract are 178 to 218 million forints. The report pointed out that in the price list of the contract signed with Breiting Sport Kft. in 2020, the discounted price of some clothing items was higher than the normal price of the product. The company conducting the investigation concluded that the price of sportswear purchased in this way was an average of 152% higher than the benchmark price.”
The swimming trunks worn in the last leadership competition cost 20,000 forints, but now they only cost 13,000 forints. If that is not enough, the association has to pay not only 100,000 forints per month, but also the cost of the clothes and the cost of storing them. The new presidency led by Norbert Madaras also terminated this contract.
