The Social Security Board and the Christian Workers Union (CWU) met today to iron out their differences. Last week, union workers at the Social Security Board launched a “black ribbon” campaign claiming the Board had breached parts of their collective bargaining agreement. The union accused the Board of misconduct and blatant disregard for its collective bargaining agreement. However, Social Security Board chief executive Deborah Ruiz said today that the statutory body was not aware of these apparent breaches.

Deborah Ruiz, CEO of SSB: “Well, I’m meeting with the union today to find out exactly what the issue is, because I honestly don’t know what the issue is. You may remember, we signed an agreement last December. So I’m meeting this afternoon to find out exactly what the issue is. As far as management is concerned, we’re not violating any agreements. So I want to get a clear understanding of exactly what their issue is. They may not agree with certain management decisions, but it’s not a violation of the CBA. So I just want to be clear and we’ll talk about it this afternoon.”
reporter: Is this related to the issues that we saw earlier this year or late last year involving an employee who said the union, I’m sorry, SSB is not acting on the timeline?
Deborah Ruiz, CEO of SSB: “That was not one of the issues that was discussed today, as far as I know, so I don’t know that it was an issue for them.”
reporter: So, there is a CBA, but the union seems to be saying that the SSB violated that CBA?
Deborah Ruiz, CEO, SSB: “From what I understand, they said this on their Facebook page. They did not report the irregularities to management as they said they would. I did not see any irregularities.”
Our newsroom reached out to the CWU for an update on what was happening after the conference, but our efforts were unsuccessful.
