FNB Bet on Botswana Premier League

Dilo di chenchile (Things have changed). That was the slogan chanted by First National Bank of Botswana (FNBB) as it announced its sponsorship of the Botswana Premier League (BPL) to the media on Thursday morning.

On the surface, the changes are obvious. The elite league will be called the FNB Premier League. The logo will be all new, with the logo of the title sponsor. The trophy will be all new, too.

But these are just cosmetic changes. For many in the local football community, the whole system needs a drastic overhaul. Their concerns stem from the fact that they see a lot of false dawns in local football.
