The “Mako”, which is banned from hunting, was found tangled in a fishing line

Ilker Özdemir and his friend were fishing in Gökçeada, and they were out fishing the other day on a boat. The two spotted a motionless fish off the coast of Kalekoy Harbor. Approaching the fish, Özdemir discovered that the fish entangled in his longline was a “Mako” type shark, 3 meters long and weighing 500 kilograms, which is prohibited to catch. Özdemir used his mobile phone to record the moment he pulled the “Mako” out of the water. Özdemir and his friend freed the shark from the fishing line and released it back into the water.

‘Sharks can come to shore’

Fisherman Ilker Özdemir said he encountered such a species for the first time, saying: “The fishing line drowned the fish. This means that this animal is wandering on such a shallow coast. It is a huge fish of the genus Mackerel, a giant mackerel.” The wildest shark in the world, in waters of about 40 meters deep, sharks can come to the shore. “This is the first time in my life that I have seen this fish on the shore. I don’t know if it will come to the beach, but we have to be careful,” he said.
