Moyale Barracks Football Club advanced to the semi-finals of the prestigious FDH Bank Cup after defeating Lube Masters 1-2 at the Mzuzu Stadium on Saturday.

In the 27th minute of the match, Moyale’s poacher, Emmanuel Allan, squeezed the ball to the near post and past Lube Masters goalkeeper, Innocent Kamwambi, and into the goal to give Moyale the lead.
This was Allen’s eighth goal of the tournament, which puts him well ahead of other players in the race for the 2024 FDH Bank Cup Golden Boot.
In the 71st minute of the second half, Lube Masters equalized the score with a goal from Rafik Kabwazi, who leaped high in the 18-meter box and headed in a beautiful cross from the left.
Just when the audience thought the result of the game would be decided by post-match penalties, in the 81st minute of the game, Luke Chima of the Moyale Barracks used his height advantage to head a free kick from captain Lovemore Jere into the goal.
The game ended 1-2 in favor of the Soldiers.
Speaking to Nyasa Times after the match, Lube Masters coach Harold Phiri commended his players for their heroic performance but also pointed out that the goalkeepers did not perform well on the day.
“We did put up a valiant fight. Unfortunately, our goalkeeping wasn’t good today. We gave them too many set-piece opportunities and they took advantage of that,” he said.
Moyale Barracks assistant coach Victor Chingoka said it was a tough game and his team was in trouble.
“We lost focus in the second half, especially in defence. Cup games are always tough, but all in all, I thank the players for the effort they put in to win this game. We will prepare for the semi-final so we can see what we have in the final,” said Chingoka.
MAFCO Football Club was also knocked out of the same cup match by visiting Karonga United FC with a score of 1-2 at the Chitowe Stadium in Dewangwa.
Karonga United coach Oscar Kaunda hailed his team’s victory.
“We know how to beat MAFCO. The semi-final will be tough but we will be ready,” he said.
This Sunday, Baka City FC will play Blue Eagles in the other quarter-final of the same tournament at the Karonga Stadium, while Nyasa Big Bullets FC will host Civil Service United.
Moyale Barracks will face the winner between FCB Nyasa Big Bullets and Civil Service United in the semi-finals while Karonga United await the winner between Baka City FC and Blue Eagles.
