Awa Bamogo will represent Burkina Faso in cycling at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Originally from Ouachigoua, she began her cycling career in her hometown, winning several local races.
In 2018, she joined the Armed Forces Sports Union (USFA) in Ouagadougou and quickly became a key figure in Burkina Faso cycling, piling up wins.
At 24, Awa made history by becoming the first West African female cyclist to medal at the 2022 African Road Championships, an event traditionally dominated by countries such as South Africa, Mauritius and Eritrea.
Now a second-class soldier in the national army, she is preparing to take on the world’s best cyclists on the roads of Paris on Sunday, August 4, 2024.
Despite having little chance of winning a medal, Awa was determined to complete the 158km race, which reflected her combative and persistent nature.
