Angkor Marathon Day tomorrow morning as part of the celebrations of the Fornan Tek Canal

The 9th International Angkor Marathon will be held in front of Angkor Wat on the morning of Sunday, August 4, 2024, with three main goals: To reach more than 3,000 participants.

Mr. Vath Chamroeun, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of Cambodia and Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee, said that the first Angkor International Marathon will be held in 2024, with 3,021 applicants, a 20% increase over the previous year. 2,206 Cambodians and 815 foreigners from 51 different countries. Among the foreigners who signed up for the race, the largest number of Japanese athletes, followed by Chinese athletes, third were Vietnamese athletes, fourth were British athletes, and fifth were Thai athletes.

The Secretary of State at the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports confirmed that the 9th International Angkor Marathon Day in 2024 has three main goals. The first goal is to raise funds to help the Kantha Bopha Hospital, just like every year. The second goal is to celebrate the groundbreaking of the Fong Nhat Koh Canal, which will be officially opened on Monday, August 5, and the third goal is to protect the environment of the Angkor ruins area and contribute to the development of Cambodia’s tourism industry.

The 9th Angkor International Marathon has four events: 42-meter full marathon, 21-kilometer half marathon, starting at 5:30 a.m., 10-kilometer race, starting at 5:40 a.m., and 3-kilometer leisure race, starting at 5:50 a.m.

The departure ceremony will be hosted by Senior Minister Thong Khun, President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, H.E. Hun Manet, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, the Governor of Siem Reap Province, the Deputy Governor and senior representatives of the Kingdom of Cambodia, and many other dignitaries.
