Du Yinuo, a 10-year-old female student living in public housing, often went in and out of the children’s ward of the hospital. Seeing the children around her suffering from illness, she decided to become a doctor. Her unwavering and resolute attitude won the Hong Kong Education Technology StartupBig Bang AcademyAdmire and stand out from the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) Experience Day and win a full scholarship for the Cambridge University Summer Exchange Group.

During his one-week stay in the UK, Du Yinuo and his classmates visited laboratories, conducted scientific experiments, attended private dinners at the college, and met with Dr.Robert Ross RussellProfessor of Clinical BiologyDavid SavageContact and listen to each other’s responses to student briefings.

Du Yinuo admitted: “I have never left China, and Cambridge University is simply out of reach for me. But after some understanding, I found that there are countless ways to Cambridge, and even to become a doctor. As long as I am willing to work hard, my dream is not far away at all.” After this trip, she further focused her personal development direction on becoming a surgeon, hoping to delve into medical technology and help more patients.

Through this experience, Du Yinuo’s mother met Miss Hong Kong champion and Cambridge University exchange group ambassadorKelly Chenwhich changed her view on education policy: “Chen Kailin is a very open-minded mother who supports her children wholeheartedly. My previous education model was stricter, focusing on Yinuo’s school performance and homework progress. Chen Kailin reminded me to guide my daughter to strike a balance between academics and interests, and most importantly, to give sincere encouragement at all times.”

The best time to show the multifaceted nature of education

The founders of Big Bang Academy, Tang Xiyi and Chen Sihao, graduated from the Department of Engineering and the Department of Genetics of Cambridge University respectively. After returning to Hong Kong, they taught STEAM knowledge to children aged 3 to 8 in an interesting and educational way. The two have come into contact with many students from different backgrounds, and they all have the same curiosity about science.

Tang Qianyi and Chen Sihao both said that Du Yinuo’s grades were among the top ten in the class. Now she is more willing to express herself confidently in English and work hard to achieve her dream. As Hong Kong vigorously promotes STEAM-related employment opportunities, now is the best time to showcase the versatility of education, hoping to guide students to cultivate interests and ambitions and move towards specific subjects and career paths.
