PARIS, France – Saint Lucia’s Julian Alfred won the women’s 100-meter gold medal in 10.72 seconds, breaking the national record and giving Saint Lucia its first gold medal at the Olympics.
Alfred easily beat American Shakari Richardson in 10.87 seconds, while fellow American Melissa Jefferson took the bronze medal in 10.92 seconds.
Jamaican teenager Tia Clayton ran well for a long distance but eventually dropped to seventh place in 11.04 seconds.
