Gunman duct-taped contractor inside ECD house and fled with millions of dollars
Kaieteur News – Three gunmen on bicycles reportedly broke into the home of a contractor in Fouris, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Thursday and made off with $5 million in cash and gold jewellery.
The bandits reportedly tied up the contractor, Anthony Yakub, with duct tape and threatened his wife at gunpoint to hand over cash and gold jewellery.
Police said Yakubu was at home with his wife when the gunmen broke in and threatened them with a gun. They taped the contractor’s hands, nose and mouth and ordered his wife to hand over all her valuables. Fearing for her life, the woman complied.
The criminals then left the house and fled on bicycles.
Soon after, the woman untied her husband, who immediately ran out of the house and drove after the thieves. He caught up with the thieves and even knocked one of them off his bicycle, but the thieves and their accomplices still escaped.
Police were then called to reports of a robbery and the contractor was taken to hospital for treatment after being found with a bloody nose.
Investigators are reviewing footage from surveillance cameras near where the home invasion took place.
The investigation is still ongoing.
