Filomenaleonisa Iakopo (third from right) stormed off the starting line and, in front of 60,000 spectators, she set a new American Samoa national 100-meter record in 12.78 seconds, becoming a true representative of American Samoa’s track and field and Olympic future. At just 18 years old, Iakopo has a promising career ahead of her. Most of the American Samoa team attended the first day of track and field competition at the Paris Olympics just to cheer and show support at the Stade de France in Paris, France.
