Phnom Penh: Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet has announced that the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam Development Triangle Cooperation Plan (CLV-DTA) will not lead to Cambodia losing territory. He also said that the spirit of nationalism must exist, without which there is no nation.
The statement was made by Samdech Thipdey at a social gathering organised by the Cambodia Duke Association and the Cambodia Housing Developers Association on the afternoon of August 2, 2024.
Prime Minister Hun Manet said he would organize a program to transport students to four northeastern provinces (Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, Mondulkiri).
My family has no plans to pack up and flee our country, our children and grandchildren, the president confirmed.
I assure the people that there will be no loss of our territory or sovereignty as a result of the CLV project.
President Hun Manet assured the people that our territory and national sovereignty will not be compromised for the development cooperation in this triangle region.
President Hun Manet said the Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam development triangular agreement does not include any agreement on land acquisition or land exchange for any country.
Prince Hun Manet said the hundreds of border posts set up are a testament to our goodwill and a clear indication of our desire to demonstrate where our country’s borders are.
“I want to assure you that the development of the CLV-DTA is Cambodia’s and we will not lose our sovereignty or territory, I guarantee my future and the future of my children,” he said.
The Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam triangular development cooperation is an initiative first proposed by Cambodia in 1999 when Trojo was prime minister. It aims to promote the integration of the border provinces of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam and build this border into a border of friendship, solidarity and development. As of 2024, 11 meetings have been held under the framework of the development triangle, with the three countries taking turns to serve as the chair. In 2024, Cambodia will host the 12th CLV Summit.
This cooperation project is essential to promote mutual respect and trust to achieve common interests, protect territorial integrity, and resolve issues through diplomatic relations and international law. Moreover, the project is a link that can increase cross-border trade, promote tourism, and is the basis for socio-economic development and poverty reduction in the border region and throughout the country.
Through this cooperation, the three countries have closely and effectively addressed non-traditional security threats such as transnational crime, illegal logging, natural disasters, security, public health, human trafficking and drug trafficking.
Recently, the opposition has distorted the CLV-DTA as a plot to cede territory to other countries. The distortion is so great that the opposition wants to promote an anti-government movement like the one in Bangladesh.
In this context, Prince Hun Sen asked foreign opposition politicians, “Why hasn’t the CLV been raised in the past 25 years? Do you still want to make a fuss about it?”
Prince Hun Sen also said that the proportion of people who know everything and a group of people with bad intentions who incite CLV is only 0.2%. In particular, about 99.8% of the people have no political stance and are very worried about the fate of the country.
Prince Hun Sen even asked a group of people who wanted to push the situation in Cambodia to Bangladesh to ask the Bangladeshi people whether they were willing to encounter such a problem? Prince Hun Sen announced that he would take all measures to prevent the Bangladesh incident from happening in Cambodia. Copyright: Soth Ly
