Kuwait City, August 1: Ziad Al-Najem, Deputy Minister of Commerce and Industry, issued a decision to form a joint working group between the Precious Metals Department and the Commercial Control Department to reduce fraud in precious metals. The group is headed by Faisal Al-Ansari, Director of the Commercial Control Department, with Khaled Mansour Al-Otaibi as his deputy, and includes nine employees of the department.
The decision clarifies the duties of the group, which includes joint inspections by the Ministry of Precious Metals and the Department of Commercial Control at gold and precious metal jewelry stores and workshops to combat commercial fraud. The group’s activities will last for three months from the date of the decision. Sources said the Eastern Region Fish Center Commercial Control Inspection Group, which is under the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, will continue its efforts to carry out inspection activities to monitor the performance of offices selling imported fish.
They explained that one of the operations resulted in the closure of an office because its owner started the auction without obtaining approval from inspectors from the Ministry of Industry and Commerce. This was in violation of existing regulations and laws that prohibit the operation of fish brokerage business without the approval of the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
The inspection team also conducted several inspections of school wear shops in Hawally and issued seven summonses for various violations such as missing price tags and no country of origin labels, the sources added.
