PARIS: Ecuadorian cyclist Jhonatan Narvaez will leave Team Ineos after six years with the team to join Tadej Pogacar’s UAE Team, the Tour de France-winning team announced on Thursday.
The 27-year-old boxer already has 11 professional victories, most notably two stage wins at the 2020 and 2024 Giro d’Italia, and a gold medal in the 2023 Pan American Championships road race.
“Since the beginning of my professional career I have always wanted to compete in cycling at the highest level and we can say that Team Emirates is the best team in the world in recent years, so it is a great honor to move there,” said Narvaez, who is in his sixth season with Team Ineos.
“I feel like I’ve taken a big step at Ineos, but I think there’s still room for me to take another step in the coming years.”
As the transfer window opened on Thursday, two other deals were announced, with Australian Ben O’Connor and Frenchman Axel Singh both set to move on.
O’Connor, who finished fourth in the 2021 Tour de France, will leave the Decathlon-AG2R team after four seasons and return to Australia with the Jayco-AlUla team.
“I’ve always loved the idea of competing as an Australian and winning as part of the Australian team,” O’Connor, 28, said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Zingle has signed a minimum two-year contract with the Visma-Lease cycling team, which includes two-time Tour de France champion Jonas Vingegaard and Wout van Aert.
The 25-year-old, described by Visma as a “very talented rider in the Classics”, leaves the Cofidis team, which has also announced the addition of Belgian rider Dylan Teuns.
