A family member of Sheikh Kerim Sabri revealed that Israeli police came to his home in occupied East Jerusalem with a large number of military and plainclothes police officers and detained Imam Khatib of the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Israeli police announced in a written statement that Sheikh Kerim Sabri had been taken away from his home and brought to the District Court for a statement.

Israel launched an investigation into Imam al-Khatib of Al-Aqsa, who prayed to Haniyeh during his Friday sermon.

National Security Minister Itamar Bengvir, who stands out for his extreme views, said in a statement on his social media account that he supports the investigation launched against Sheikh Kerim Sabri.

Interior Minister Moshe Abel also announced plans to revoke Sheikh Kerim Sabri’s “residence permit” in East Jerusalem and move him out of the city. In a letter to Chief Prosecutor Ghali Baharaf-Miala, Abel said he planned to revoke Sabri’s “residence permit.”

Israeli authorities have detained Sheikh Kerim Sabri several times in recent years, placed him under investigation, prevented him from entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque and banned him from traveling abroad.

Israel has revoked the residency rights of Palestinians with permanent residency status in occupied East Jerusalem and forced them to move to the occupied West Bank.
