SINGAPORE: Several Asian airlines, including Singapore Airlines (SIA), have stopped flying over Iranian airspace amid growing concerns over Iran’s aviation safety. Tensions escalate in the Middle East.
In response to CNA’s queries, Singapore Airlines said its flights, as well as those of its low-cost subsidiary Scoot, had stopped flying over Iranian airspace and started using alternative routes.
The rule came into effect at 1:30 a.m. on Friday (August 2).
Singapore Airlines said: “All Singapore Airlines flights between Amsterdam, Brussels, Copenhagen, Frankfurt, Istanbul, London, New York (JFK), New York (Newark), Manchester, Milan, Munich, Paris, Rome and Zurich, and all Scoot flights between Singapore and Athens are affected.”
No flights were cancelled, the company added.
The airline said the rerouting may result in travel times “slightly longer than usual” on some flights.
“If connecting flights are delayed due to extended flight times, Singapore Airlines will assist affected passengers to relocate to alternative flights.”
“We will continue to monitor the situation in the Middle East closely and adjust our flight paths as needed.”
