QT: Both teams were in good form tonight. The in-form Western Bulldogs (again playing in Footscray) kept Melbourne on their toes in the first 15 minutes and if they had played straighter the game would have probably been over.
Even so, they still led in the first period 4.7 (31) to 1.1 (7), a satisfying scoreline for the struggling Demons.

Cody Wittman lit up the team in attack, but Marcus Bontempelli also had a strong performance. The Dogs’ captain had 11 disposals, four scrambles, five plays inside 50 yards, six scores, two clearances, four steals, and a great goal when Tom McDonald failed to hit the ball past Sherin.
McDonald had a terrible start and as he continued to play, Jamara Ugel-Hagan caught the ball from McDonald deep in the defence, completely unaware of the Bulldogs. Bailey Dale, Tom Liberatore, Adam Treloar and reborn defender Rory Lobb also played well.
