A Chinese national is wanted in Palau for allegedly using a forged Philippine passport to obtain a worker permit.
The Immigration Bureau has issued a warrant for the arrest of William Lim, also known as William Estacio Lim. It is not clear whether charges have been filed against him or whether the Bureau has revoked the national’s entry visa.
The government, after due diligence, discovered that Lin had submitted a forged Philippine passport.
According to documents obtained by the Palau Times, Lin allegedly arrived in Palau as a tourist in December 2023 and applied for and received a work permit at HK Lucky Restaurant in January 2024.
Although the background check results have not yet been released, Mr. Lin was still granted a work permit on February 20, 2024.
After receiving Lin’s permit application in January, the Employment Services Department requested the assistance of the Palau National Security Office (NSO) in conducting a background check on the national.
The NSO sent Lin’s passport to the Philippine government for further analysis. In May this year, the Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a diplomatic note to the NSO that Lin’s Philippine passport was a forgery.
“The passport was obtained through fraud and misunderstanding or was tampered with after being issued or issued to the holder,” the Turkish Foreign Ministry said in a diplomatic note.
The report also stated that the Philippine government would not recognize Lin’s passport.
The department subsequently notified the Bureau of Immigration that Lin’s labor permit had been revoked. (By Bernadette Carreon)
