Video posted on Facebook showed a man rushing into the cathedral during midday Mass on Sunday, smoking a giant vaporizer and shouting: “Freedom for Martin!”
He organized such a protest against the court’s decision to sentence Martin Simanyn to prison. “Delfi” has already written about M. Simanyn, a young man who opened a marijuana store and was convicted for dealing drugBecause the products he sold contained excessive levels of the psychoactive substance tetrahydrocannabinol.
The man, who was protesting against the court ruling at Arch Cathedral, was quickly chased away by the crowd, who pinned him to the ground outside until police arrived.
According to Delphi, Tomas Braženias, a representative of the Vilnius County Police Department, said that officers received a call about the disruption of the mass at 12:00 pm 30 minutes.
“An individual born in 1986 entered the cathedral during Mass and used a vaporizer to emit the odor of a possible narcotic substance (fibrous cannabis), thereby disrupting and interrupting Mass. A green, possibly narcotic substance (marijuana). The person has been detained”, T. Bražėnas informed.
He said the police had launched a pre-trial investigation into the crime of illegal possession of drugs under Article 259 of the Criminal Code.
Incidentally, under Article 171 of the Civil Code, protesters can be charged by law enforcement with obstructing the conduct of religious ceremonies, public works, or fined, or restricted in their freedom, or arrested.
Director Emilis Vėlyvis and actors Mindaugas Papinigis and Arūnas Storpiristis were found guilty of such a crime a few years ago for breaking into a church service in Turgelija while promoting a “zero live show.” They were fined, the actors each had to pay 1,000 euros, the director 1,500 euros.

The decision was supposed to be announced on Monday, but the judges resumed the trial because they wanted to ask Simaning more questions. The convict will be questioned at a hearing on October 9.
The shop owners promise to sell legal CBD products, a form of cannabis that contains almost no psychoactive substance tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). In Lithuania, the sale of cannabis with a THC concentration of no more than 0.2% is allowed.
However, one day, when the police came to the store to check some of the products, they found that the THC content of some marijuana exceeded the standard, ranging from 0.26% to 0.53%.
In court, M. Simanyns argued that he did not know he was selling drugs and presented a laboratory certificate proving that the THC content in his marijuana did not exceed 0.2%. However, this excuse did not work, and the president of the Kaunas District Court, Arunas Povanis, sentenced him to 2 years and 2 months in prison for drug trafficking.
Such a harsh punishment has aroused the indignation of some people and even triggered small-scale protests.
