Kuwait City, August 1: Kuwait’s Supreme Committee for Nationality Investigation issued three decisions stripping 28 people of their citizenship.
The first ruling deprived two people of their Kuwaiti nationality under article 9 of Amiri Decree No. 15 of 1959. The second ruling deprived another four people of their Kuwaiti nationality under article 10 of the same decree. The third ruling deprived 22 people of their Kuwaiti nationality under article 11, which provides that Kuwaiti citizens lose their nationality if they voluntarily acquire foreign nationality.
The decision, issued on July 25 and published in the supplement of Kuwait Al-Anifah newspaper, shows that of the 22 people affected by the third decision, 19 have citizenship granted by the authorities and 8 have not yet obtained citizenship.
Article 9 of the decree provides that if a foreign wife acquires Kuwaiti nationality, she does not lose her nationality upon termination of the marriage unless she reverts to her original nationality or acquires another nationality.
Article 10 provides that a Kuwaiti woman who marries a foreigner does not lose her Kuwaiti nationality unless she acquires her husband’s nationality upon request.
