Here’s everything you need to know about today’s event Paris Olympic Games It starts on Thursday, August 1 and runs until Friday morning.
New Zealand’s medal chances on day six
In the period between 9.18pm and about 1am, New Zealand had a good chance of winning five medals.
The competition kicks off with four black rowing finals. At 9:18pm, Lucy Spors and Brooke Francis will compete in the women’s double sculls final. They set the fastest time in their semifinals and will start in lane three. Both are former world champions and Olympic medallists. Spors competed in the women’s eights at the Tokyo Olympics, while Francis won a silver medal in the event three years ago. Both athletes took time off after the Tokyo Olympics to start a family and returned to international competition last year, finishing fifth at last year’s World Championships. Their biggest threats appear to be the defending champions from Romania and the double sculls from Britain.
The men’s double sculls final will then take place at 9.30pm, with Robbie Manson and Jordan Parry in lane 6. They had the fourth best time in their semi-final.
The men’s four-man boat team of Logan Ulrich, Matt MacDonald, Tom Murray and Oliver McLean started at 10.10pm in lane four. They were the fastest in the heats and New Zealand’s best chance of winning gold on day six. The team features two 2020 eight-man boat gold medallists in MacDonald and Murray. The United States and Great Britain are expected to be their biggest threats.
At 10:30pm, Jackie Gawler, Davina Wardie, Phoebe Sporse and Kerry Williams put an end to their medal hopes when they took to the field in lane 2 of the women’s four-row final. They won the World Cup race earlier this year, but the world champions the Netherlands did not make the final. Tonight they are in lane 4. New Zealand was second in the heats behind Great Britain.
The men’s 49er team of Isaac McHardie and Will McKenzie bounced around the top three, taking first place at one point but falling to third in the final race this morning. They are three points behind the second-place Irish duo and eight points behind leaders Diego Botin and Florian Trittel of Spain. If they can finish at the top of the leaderboard, the gold medal is a sure thing. 49er FX team members Jo Aleh and Molly Meech bounced back to get into medal contention, finishing seventh but missing the podium by 27 points and missing out on a medal.

Golf: New Zealand men tee off at Le Golf National
Ryan Fox will start at 7:22pm, along with Emiliano Grillo (Argentina) and Alex Noren (Sweden). Fellow New Zealander Daniel Hillier makes his Olympic debut an hour later, teaming up with Adrien Dumont de Chassart (Belgium) and Guido Migliozzi (Italy). Ten minutes ahead of Hillier are the star trio of Scottie Scheffler (USA), Rory McIlroy (Ireland) and Ludvig Åberg (Sweden).
Judo: Moira Coster in action
She will face German-born Guinean Marie Blanser in the first round. Blanser, who has competed for Germany and the Democratic Republic of Congo, is the current African champion but lost in the first round at the Tokyo Olympics.
Costa was seriously injured in the bronze medal final of the Pan American Games in April this year.
Hockey: Black Sticks must win
The New Zealand men’s hockey team have narrowly lost their first three games and now face Australia in a must-win group stage match. To reach the top four, they will need to beat Australia and Ireland in their final two games.
Swimming: New Zealanders return to pools
Lewis Clareburt will compete in the 200m individual medley heats, Taiko Torepe-Ormsby will compete in the men’s 50m freestyle splash and sprint heats, while the women’s 4 x 200m freestyle relay team, led by Erika Fairweather, will be vying for a spot in the finals tomorrow morning.
Sailing: Windsurfers aim for medals
Josh Amit and Verle ten Haff continue to play their final races before the medal elimination stage. Both are expected to advance to the next stage. Meanwhile, Tom Sanders started his sailing race with a 1-2 race.
BMX: The Race Begins
Rico Bearman and Leila Walker started their respective BMX races in the first round.
