We learned from Sika Finance on Thursday, August 1, 2024 that the Malian government has launched an ambitious project to strengthen mobility and national integration through the creation of a new airline, Air Mali.

The decision was approved at a ministerial meeting held in Bamako on July 31, 2024.
Mali Airlines was established to meet the need to open up Mali’s vast territory, which stretches for more than 1.24 million km and has 7,420 km of borders with seven neighboring countries. As a landlocked country, Mali seeks to guarantee regular and reliable air services to improve population mobility and promote regional trade.

The government passed the bill for the creation and approval of the articles of association of the new state-owned company, Air Mali, which aims to become a pillar of national mobility and a symbol of national pride, while promoting progress and integration at a regional level.

This move echoes the era when the national company “Mali Airways” provided internal and external services to the country from 1960 to 1985. Since the closure of “Mali Airways”, internal and external services have been provided by Mali Ariane from 2005 to 2012, and are currently supported by private companies.

The Malian government hopes that Mali Airlines will restore Mali’s air connectivity and usher in a new era of development for Mali.
