Minsk, August 1 /Corr. Belta/. An investigation is underway into the death of an 11-year-old boy covered in sand in the Stolin region, the Belarusian Investigative Committee told BelTA.
The tragedy occurred near the village of Duboy. A child and a friend spent several days digging a tunnel through a sand bank. On the afternoon of August 1, the men continued their dangerous occupation when suddenly the ground collapsed, covering one of them. The second man ran to call for help.
“Passersby pulled the boy’s body out of the sand and doctors who arrived performed resuscitation measures, but they were unable to save the child’s life,” the investigative committee said.
The matter is being investigated by the Stolin District Investigative Committee. All circumstances of the incident are being determined, including the causes and conditions that led to the tragedy.
