(Jamaica Observer) KINGSTON, Jamaica – Entertainer Vybz Kattell and his co-accused were freed on Wednesday after the Court of Appeal ruled that there would be no retrial in the murder case of Clive “Lizard” Williams.
The judgment was made not long ago.
The decision was made by three judges, including Justice Marva McDonald-Bishop, Justice Paulette Williams and Justice David Fraser.
Prior to its judgment, the Court provided a brief summary for the sole purpose of assisting the public in understanding the matter. The full judgment will be published at www.courtofappeal.gov.jm
Vybz Kartel (real name Adidja Palmer); Shawn ‘Shawn Storm’ Campbell, Kahira Jones and Andre St John were convicted of Williams’ murder in September 2011.
Lawyers representing the four appealed to the local appellate court in 2020, but the original verdict was ultimately upheld.
The defendants’ appeal was then submitted to the UK Privy Council, and on March 14, 2024, their murder convictions were overturned due to juror misconduct.
The Privy Council also sent the case back to the Jamaica Court of Appeal to decide whether it should be retried.
