Renewable energy must be driven by science and economics, not politics

Everyone agrees that electricity is essential to lift people out of poverty. Therefore, the more competitive the cost of electricity, the better the prospects for improved living standards for households, especially in rural areas. As with any other input, as electricity becomes increasingly expensive, the natural response is to reduce its consumption.

Which brings us back to the whole issue of solar and wind power, which remain unviable unless taxpayers provide massive subsidies.

The problem with solar and wind power (also known as renewable energy) is that, unlike previous inventions, their development was not driven by science itself. To a large extent, it was driven by the politicization of climate science. To begin to understand the inherent political nature of climate science, you have to contrast it with groundbreaking inventions that have improved human living standards.
