A new bar on the Strip? The project adapts to the needs of the community

We have talked about the “Sip of Sycamore” project here more than once. In short – for those who missed the previous episodes: it is a joint project between Walla (through “Sanadrink”) and CBC Israel through its craft beer brand “Shakma”.

The project was born in the early days of the war and was initially intended to help pubs in surrounding settlements, including: Sderot, Zikim, Nativ HaTara, Nir Am, Bari, Gluvot and Kfar Gaza, to renovate and organize their return home and reopen.

The problem is that in some settlements, such as kibbutzim like Bari and Gaza Kfar, it will be a long time before the long-awaited return home. What to do? We grab a bottle of Sycamore beer, make sure we have something to gnaw on so we don’t drink on an empty stomach, and listen to the stories of those who have become refugees in their own country – especially the hugs.

This is how our story turned into a journey story: in some places, such as in Netiv Hatara (where the community bar “Hagan” is being renovated) and the Green Bar in Kibbutz Nir Am, which we all hope will be able to open during the coming September, and in the Gvolot bar, which has already resumed work, we will help install the sound system, lighting or furniture.

Elsewhere, we will focus on activities in temporary settlements, such as assisting the communities of Kfar Gaza (Ruhama) and Bari (Hazirim) with training in temporary sites.

Because we promised them one thing when we set out – you will not get rid of us until we drink the first glass of “Sycamore” in the bars that will soon reopen: in the city, kibbutz or settlement.
