This city council and the city water department really give people a lot of confidence in their abilities. They told us they had to take their time getting the water system running again. They seemed to be holding the faucet in one hand and the Bible in the other, praying for a good outcome. It’s bad enough when you’re worried about adjusting the pressure in the main and you’re praying you don’t hear cables snapping and concrete cracking. If they learn anything from this fiasco, I hope it’s that the entire main and any pipe like it needs to be replaced immediately. And not cheap concrete pipe, but high pressure steel pipe that can handle at least a million more people for the next century. The city council has over $1 billion in reserves. If that’s not a reason to use them, I don’t know what is.

Strange sight
I was 16 when I first saw Luis Buñuel’s 1961 film ViridianaAs a Catholic who grew up in Quebec, I was naturally shocked and appalled by this parody scene. The Last SupperIt was extremely disrespectful. In the place of Jesus and his apostles, a group of greedy illegal appropriators occupied a country estate where food and wine were plentiful and lavish banquets could be held. This scene did not infuriate me. On the contrary, it gave me an insight into the power of ancient idolatrous images. Moreover, it made me question the authority of the Church in the province – it expanded my intellectual resources. As for imitation The Last Supper I’m not sure if this was held at the Paris Olympics. All I can say is that it was more of an unprovoked insult.
