(SKNFA) Security Force Football Club, the 2024 SKNFA First Division Champions, drew 1-1 with Molineux Football Club at the National Bank Group Technology Center in St. Peters on Friday, July 26, 2024. Dion Dolphin put Security Force ahead in the 3rd minute of the match, but Ronald Williams’ goal in the 88th minute ensured that Molineux would not fall easily. Nevertheless, the result was enough for Security Force to clinch the First Division Championship, finishing top of the table with 42 points. Security Force coach Iroy Jeffers praised his players for the achievement. He recalled taking over the team mid-season with an undefeated record and the experience he had in leading them to the title.
“It was a tough decision, but after talking to my daughter, she told me to keep challenging myself. I went to my first (practice) and saw the players. They were respectful, loved to learn, which is the most important thing, and everything (went) right,” Jeffers said.
Despite winning the title and qualifying for the National Bank Group Super League next season, Jeffers said it was not easy and they had to work extra hard. “In the Super League, you need better players, better coaches, better referees. You have to be hungry to succeed and learn as quickly as possible,” Jeffers surmised.
Meanwhile, the team’s goalkeeping coach Keith King spoke about the work and efforts that were put in before the season to improve the safety unit’s defense. Throughout the season, the safety unit conceded only 15 goals, which is less than any team in the A-League. “One thing we tried to focus on was improving our defense. People say goals win championships, and if you don’t concede goals, technically you can’t lose. We tried to instill in the players the importance of not letting the ball into the net, the importance of working with each other as a defensive unit, and the importance of making sure it’s difficult for the opponent to penetrate the defense,” King revealed. The safety unit still has one more game before the season ends, and that game will be held at the Technical Center this Tuesday.
