A new fire front has covered Bulgaria. More than 20,000 acres of forest are burning in Blagoevgradsko. Residents of the villages of Tsaparevo and Karpelevo have been evacuated. About 110 people have been forced to leave their homes.

“A part of the people of Tsaparevo will be transferred to Mikrevo. We have created conditions for all of them to spend the night in the city of Sandanski. No one was injured,” assured the chief secretary of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Dimitar Kangalgiev.

A fire broke out near Miklevo in the afternoon. A huge smoke screen covered the Maleshevska Mountain. The NOVA team set out for the village of Karpelevo. The BG-ALERT system warned of the threat and urged residents of the settlement to evacuate.

In the village, our group encountered only three people. They had gathered to watch the fire on the opposite ridge, but they didn’t know what to do. They hadn’t received the evacuation message on their phones.

To help put out the fire near Mikrevo, French aircraft were diverted from another fire in the area, on the border with Greece. Firefighting had been suspended in the morning due to a mine explosion in Bulgarian territory.

“Colleagues immediately began to put out the fire, but as a result, they heard another mine explosion. For this reason, the team withdrew. We will do our best to extinguish any fire on the road, no matter how small it is,” explained the head of the State Fire and Rescue Service, Alexander Zartov.

The “Border Police” ensure that all mines on Bulgarian territory are protected.
