KOROR – A new bus route with expanded service launched in Koror on Monday. The bus will now run Monday to Friday, compared to twice a week previously.

The new route has more stops on Koror Island and the fare remains $1 per trip.

The first westbound bus departed from Surangel Super Center at 8:30 a.m. and arrived at Ice Box Park at 9:03 a.m. The 19 stops were: Surangel Super Center, True Value, JP Friendship Bridge (Airai side), Ngermid, Ngerchemai, Midszenty High School, Etpison Museum, Palasia Hotel, WCTC/Yano Clinic, PNCC Koror, Palau High School Gymnasium, Senior Center, Chamayong Center, Belau National Hospital, Elilai Restaurant, Sea Passion, Customs and Parks Border Protection.

The first eastbound bus departs from Ice Box Park at 9:05 a.m. and stops at 20 stops, arriving at Surangel Super Center in Airai at 9:36 a.m. Stops include: Ice Box Park, Malakal Port, Fishery Pier, Cove/Palau Royal Resort, Miso Hungry/Chopshop Restaurant, Long Island Park, PRA Gas Station, BA Store, Senior Center, MOE Building, Ernguul Park, Palau Post Office, WCTC, Moylan Insurance, Etpison Museum, Midszenty High School, Ngermid, Ngerchemai, Klubed/Bem Ermii.

The bus runs six times a day between Surangel Super Center and Ice Box Park. Westbound departures are at 8:30 a.m., 9:45 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:45 p.m., and 3 p.m.; eastbound departures are at 9:05 a.m., 10:20 a.m., 11:35 a.m., 1:05 p.m., 2:20 p.m., and 3:35 p.m.

According to Director August, the complete bus schedule, including stop times, is available online through the Facebook pages of Palau Ecology, Friendly Public Transport, the Ministry of Human Resources Development, PVA and JICA.

The bus project is seeking feedback from passengers, including members of the Ekei women’s group and Omekesang organisation, to improve services for elderly and disabled passengers.

The project is a collaboration between the Palau government and the Japan International Cooperation Agency.
