Fatalities on National Highway N6. Last Thursday, July 25, a tragic accident occurred between two passenger buses in the town of Ouan, in the San region.

The incident occurred on Thursday, July 25, 2024, at around 8:30 am, on National Road 06 (RN6) in the San region. A press release issued by the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure states that the accident was caused by a head-on collision between one (1) passenger bus of the Fakala Transport company from Mopti and another (1) passenger bus of the Ascofar Transport company, moving in opposite directions. According to preliminary reports, the death toll is 16 and the number of injured is 48, including 6 serious cases. The accident also caused significant material damage. We mention in this press release that all the victims were cared for by Civil Protection personnel and taken to the San Reference Health Center. According to the same official source, the possible cause of this accident was speeding and recklessness of the driver. In this matter, we rest assured that investigations are still ongoing to clarify the specific circumstances of the accident. The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure announced that on behalf of the Government, he expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. At the same time, we read in this interim document dated July 25, 2022, that the department calls on citizens to strictly abide by the highway regulations in order to preserve their personal integrity.
