-Conflict between the prosecution and the defense
Local Government Minister Sonia Parag was the first witness to testify in the much-anticipated 2020 election fraud trial yesterday and as she tried to explain what she observed as a PPP/C candidate, the defense raised several objections, most of which were dismissed by presiding judge Leron Daly.
The magistrate did, however, suggest to the prosecution that officials of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) should explain the electoral process as Parag, who is a PPP/C 2020 candidate, is unable to do so, which was also objected to by defence counsel.
Appearing in court were former Chief Electoral Officer Keith Lowenfield, former District 4 Electoral Officer Clairmont Mingo, former Deputy Chief Electoral Officer Roxanne Myers, Volda Lawrence, Sheffern February, Denise Bobb-Cummings, Michelle Miller, Enrique Livan and Carol Smith-Joseph. Miller attended via Zoom, while the others attended in person.
