Papua New Guinea lightweight boxer John Ume lost his debut to
Cuban boxers at the Northeast Arena.
According to the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee, Ume will compete in the 63.5kg boxing category.
He fought hard, but ultimately lost to Cuban player Elislandy Alvarez Borges, who was
2023 World Boxing Championships silver medalist and accomplished boxer.
Ume said it has been a blessing to represent his country and he is part of the team

Papua New Guinea captain Ryan Pini said it was a huge effort to combat

Coach Peter Morrison described Ume as an athlete who showed inspirational determination
and perseverance highlight the resilient spirit and pride of Papua New Guinea
