Piacenza, July 26, 2024 – The Renewable Energy Community (CER) created by the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart and the EDUCatt Foundation on the University’s Piacenza Campus: the Shared Energy Campus – this is the name of the CER – is destined to become an experience that will be piloted in other university locations, starting with the Cremona Campus, with the aim of creating similar ones.
The project is part of a series of initiatives launched over a long period of time by the three Faculties of Agriculture, Food and Environmental Sciences, Economics and Law and Educational Sciences on topics related to sustainable development, with various aspects studied and investigated through a large number of research centres operating on the Piacenza Campus. Among them, OPERA – the European Observatory on Sustainable Agriculture, directed by Professor Ettore Capri, and RES.m HUB – the Centre for Research on Managerial Responsibility, Ethics and Sustainable Development, directed by Professor Anna Maria Fellegara.
The founding deed of CER was signed yesterday (Thursday 25 July) at the Piacenza campus, by the Rector of the Catholic University, Elena Beccalli, and the EDUCatt Angelo Giornelli, represented by the Rector, Elena Marta, to the notary, Massimo Toscani.
“For the Catholic University, sustainable development and environmental protection are two absolutely important topics. For this reason, we have invested resources in the creation of the Agrivoltaic Campus. The idea initially conceived by the Piacenza Campus Sustainable Development Committee was to adopt a more conscious approach in terms of energy consumption, setting up a system aimed at meeting most of the headquarters’ needs with renewable energy, convinced that this was an opportunity not to be missed to interpret more completely one’s role in the energy transition, inspired by the principles of Laudato si’. Therefore, the project, as it further develops, will expand and share the energy generated with other entities, forming an open, supportive and inclusive community. In addition to the economic benefits and efficiency gains related to local virtual self-consumption, avoiding overloads and guaranteeing the stability of the energy system, social goals and the fight against energy poverty remain priorities”, declares the Rector of the Catholic University. Angelo Manfredini, director of the Catholic University of Piacenza-Cremona, was appointed to be in charge of the allocation of CER shared electricity.
In the creation of the CER, special attention was paid to the legal and financial aspects, which were handled and followed up by the new Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Law, Professor Marco Allena, and Umberto Volontè, partner lawyer at Advest TLC.
