There will be stormy weather on Sunday afternoon. High temperatures today and tomorrow will be accompanied by storms that may develop into torrential rains. Locally up to 50 liters of precipitation per square meter. Wind speeds of up to 80 kilometers per hour with gusts. Such weather conditions usually bring torrential flooding and windbreaks. Even hail is not ruled out. We are publishing an animation where you can see how the storm will move.
After a sunny and hot Saturday, an even hotter Sunday is coming. In the lowlands of most parts of Slovenia, the thermometer will show 32 to 34 degrees Celsius. The hottest weather will be in Goriška and Bela Krajina, where the temperature can reach 36 degrees Celsius.
Stormy weather Sunday afternoon
However, the sunny and hot weather in many places will not last until the evening. In the afternoon, a cold front with storms will arrive in the northern regions and will sweep across most of the country in a few hours.

Tomorrow afternoon, sunshine will be replaced by storm clouds in many places.
There may be heavy rain and gusty winds, and even hail cannot be ruled out
The storm is likely to develop into a localized storm due to the great instability of the atmosphere and the change in wind direction with altitude. Atmospheric conditions will encourage the formation of larger storm systems, with the main dangers being heavy rain and gusty northerly winds, with hail also possible in smaller areas.

Due to the possibility of storms, drivers are warned that traffic may be disrupted and travel times may be longer in some places. It is not unnecessary to be cautious. This photo is from the archives.
The storm initially hit the northern part of the country
Initially, localized storms are most likely in Goronje, Carinthia, Staryeersk and Prekmurje. In smaller areas, rainfall of more than 50 liters per square meter may fall in a short period of time. Individual jet streams may become stronger and cause flooding. We also warn of the possibility of torrential flooding. There will be heavy rains in many places accompanied by strong winds. With gusts, local speeds may exceed 80 kilometers per hour, so windbreaks may also be in place.

Even tomorrow afternoon a windbreak is not ruled out. Heavy downpours will be accompanied by strong winds. Gusts can reach 80 km/h. This photo is from the archives.
The storm then moved to central and southeastern Slovenia.
The strongest storms will then move across central Slovenia towards the southeast of the country, where storms are also possible. Individual stronger storms may also develop elsewhere, but many parts of Primoska and Notranjska, as everything looks like, will remain dry. By the evening, the storms will gradually die down.
In the animation, you can see how the storm will spread according to a weather model. If the area is red, it means heavy rain. On the map, you can see every 15 minutes how the weather will change from noon to midnight tomorrow.
What awaits us in the new week?
The new week will start with slightly cooler and drier air. The advantage of dry air is that it prevents the formation of storm clouds. Only a few showers are possible. Otherwise, sunny weather will bring fresh mornings and warm summer afternoons. The temperature will not exceed 30 degrees Celsius in most parts of Slovenia (except the coastal areas).
Later this week, hot weather returns, with more humidity and a chance of storms.
The weather will gradually warm up again for the rest of the week and with rising temperatures comes increased humidity, which means the chance of storms will increase again.
