It is a historic day. After a process that lasted many years, Burkina Faso inscribed the Royal Court of Tibelet on the UNESCO World Heritage List on Friday, July 26, 2024 in New Delhi, India.
The number of sites in Burkina Faso listed as UNESCO heritage sites now stands at four.
“This inscription reaffirms our rich cultural heritage, our inherent values and expertise, our commitment to building the Burkina Faso of tomorrow, sovereign and uninhibited”, said the head of state, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, in a post on X.
In addition to the Royal Court, we have the ruins of Loropéni, registered in 2009, the W-Arly-Pendjari complex, registered in 2017, and the ancient iron smelting sites, registered in 2019, located in five different locations in the villages of Douroula and Tiwêga, near Kaya, Yamaná, Kindíbo and Becuí.
