Gospel singer Chevelle Franklyn will receive a long-awaited Grammy certificate in recognition of her contribution to Shabba Ranks’ The 1992 Grammy Award-winning album Super naked.
The award will be presented to the former reggae artiste at a special event organised by Back 2 Da Future Music Limited on Tuesday, August 13 at the Audi showroom in Jamaica.
Kennedy Mensah of Back 2 Da Future Music said: “Chevelle’s illustrious career has played an integral role in shaping 90s dancehall music. Her powerful and soulful voice has graced countless hits, cementing her place as one of the most influential singers in reggae and dancehall music history. Chevelle is one of many artists who have had a significant impact on reggae and dancehall music. We are excited to be honoring her and others this year.”
Franklyn will be Super NudeThe awards are part of a wider initiative by Back 2 Da Future Music Limited to distribute nearly 100 unclaimed Grammy certificates to musicians in the reggae music industry. Approximately 50 of these will be presented in Jamaica, while the remainder will be distributed to winners in Florida and the United Kingdom.
Franklyn said she was grateful for the recognition and hard work, “Thank you so much Back to the Future Thank you for all their hard work and dedication to representing musicians and artists like me!” she added.

In 1998, Franklin was supposed to sing “The Queen of Dancehall” at a concert, but she sang Kirk Franklin’s gospel song “Silver and Gold” and announced that she had become a Christian. Before becoming a gospel singer, Shevel Franklin was one of the most prolific female artists in the reggae and dancehall music scene in the 1990s. She has collaborated with many legendary artists such as Spragga Benz, Shabba Ranks, Lady G and Beenie Man. She has made significant contributions not only to the reggae genre, but also to other music genres. She continues to be an active and inspiring figure in the music industry.
