As a heat wave hit Japan again on Friday, Japanese authorities urged people to take action to prevent strokes, according to a report released by Japan’s national television station NHK on July 26.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said that as of Thursday, the high temperature in the Kanto Koshin region of central Japan continued for several days, and the temperature in Kiryu City in Gunma Prefecture in the south rose to 38.3 degrees Celsius. The agency predicts that the temperature in some areas will rise sharply again on Friday, with the daytime temperature in Maebashi City reaching 37 degrees Celsius and Mito City reaching 36 degrees Celsius.
The temperature in central Tokyo, Yokohama and Utsunomiya reached 35 degrees Celsius, and in Niigata it reached 31 degrees Celsius. In addition, the Meteorological Agency and the Ministry of the Environment also issued high temperature warnings for Ibaraki Prefecture, Izu Prefecture and Chiba Prefecture.

In recent days, many people have been hospitalized with stroke symptoms. People are warned not to exercise, try to avoid going out, but use adequate air conditioning at home and drink water and salt regularly, especially the elderly and babies, because they are very susceptible to stroke.
As temperatures soar across the country, the meteorological department also announced that heavy rainfall is expected in the Kanto Koshin region due to the influence of a low-pressure system, and heavy rain is likely to occur in parts of Niigata Prefecture on Friday, with the possibility of heavy rain in the afternoon and lightning. The ministry also called on the public to be alert to flooding, river eruptions, landslides, thunderstorms, strong winds and hail.
